Problems with custody and my ex getting involved.

I have been split from my ex for a number of years now, it is all still ok between us and we are friends. We have two kids together though and i am concerned that she is going to try and get full custody of the children, she has hinted at this but i did not think she would try but now she has a new partner i think she may go ahead with it. I have tried doing my homework on parental rights uk to see if she could actually do this but it is very hard to get a simple answer out of anyone. I would have thought that because i work and own my house that she would have no reason to try and obtain full custody but one of my friends said it did not matter because she was the mother!? how is this fair! if anyone can provide for the children it is me! i earn a lot more have a more suitable house. I cant see how it is fair that she can even try and obtain custody of them.
